It’s that time of year again, the holiday season! It’s a time to reconnect with your family and friends and spend time doing activities you don’t normally have the time to enjoy. There is one fun place my friends and I used to go when we were off for break in high school. Howard Park opens an ice skating rink in late November for holiday entertainment every year. It’s a place for any age to enjoy time outside during the winter months.
Howard Park, only a few blocks from downtown South Bend, provides an outdoor ice skating rink where every age is welcome to enjoy ice skating fun.
I used to go there to reconnect with high school friends but I remember seeing kids as young as toddlers as well as their grandparents skating. Young kids gliding along the smooth, glassy ice would sprint past me as I tried to catch my balance. It seemed to be a great place to bring kids to burn their energy. At first, I was a little wobbly, but ended up racing my friends near the end. The skating rink seemed like a winter playground. Of course, a wipe out or two may have occurred. With snow falling outside, we would end the night with hot chocolate inside the lobby to warm up and try to get the feeling back into our ankles.
The affordability of ice skating at Howard Park is a major perk. On a regular day admission plus skate rental is only $9 for adults and $8 for children. During Dec. 22nd-Jan 6th “Christmas Break” special deals are offered every day, including free skate rental and free admission for children. Check out their website for more special deals. Whether ice skating is a holiday tradition or a new adventure, Howard Park is a great place to enjoy the winter months.
