Weekend Events Highlight Hendricks County Holidays

As the holiday lights begin to twinkle each evening and the chill in the air becomes more pronounced, it becomes apparent that the holidays have truly arrived.

In Hendricks County, there is no shortage of places to shop, things to do and events to see every holiday season. What follows are a list of some of our favorites that are worth the drive and could make for an excellent day trip or weekend adventure. The Tri Kappa Gingerbread Christmas in Plainfield truly has something for everyone on your shopping list.

Tri Kappa Gingerbread Christmas – The 42nd annual event has become one of oldest and largest Hendricks County holiday events. More than 100 booths will showcase handcrafted items and artwork from specially chosen master artisans and crafters from all over the region. Admission is $3. Details:  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 1 at Plainfield High School, 1 Red Pride Drive, Plainfield. Website

Christmas Under the Stars – In Hendricks County, anytime is a good time for a parade. Join hundreds who line the streets of Brownsburg for a one-of-a-kind holiday parade where Santa is the star and floats, cars and even animals glow with holiday lights. Then, head to Town Hall after the parade for a holiday light show and get pictures with Santa. Details: 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 1 at Brownsburg Town Hall, 61 N. Green St., Brownsburg. Website

Cookie Recipe Trail – Highlighting 12 locally owned businesses that are perfect locations for holiday shopping including a chocolate shop, toy store and an outdoor mall, the Cookie Recipe Trail adds a bit of twist by offering a unique cookie recipe at each locations. Visit a few or visit them all to collect some amazing cookie recipes and you might even find a unique gift along the way, too. Details: Through Christmas at various locations in Avon, Brownsburg, Danville and Plainfield. Website

Rural Routes to Main Street Cultural Trail Holiday Open House – Participate in this hands-on holiday version of Hendricks County’s popular driving tour. The three-day event includes demonstrations and workshops at many sites in both Hendricks and Morgan counties including Chateau Thomas Winery, the Martinsville Candy Kitchen and Gallery on the Square. Details: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 6-8 at various locations. Website
