Christmas Fun in Brown County

The holidays are the time of year when we often feel torn in too many directions. While much of it is fun: cookie baking and tasting, tree lightings, visits with Santa, shopping, etc., it can also be quite overwhelming. It’s nice to get away and slow down, but while still embracing the magic of the season.

Fortunately, the weekends beginning November 23 through December 23 in Brown County allow you to enjoy a leisurely pace, and yet also check a lot of holiday fun off your to-do list. And they’ve got a little something to please every member of the family.

Offered Every Weekend (November 23-December 23):

  • Meet Santa: Visit with Santa in his own Brown County “cabin” at the Pavilion on Main Street. He’ll be home every Saturday and Sunday during the holidays. Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sundays, 12 p.m.-4 p.m.
  • Listen to carolers. What could be more relaxing than the sound of carolers wandering the village? They’ll stroll Fridays 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturdays 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. & 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.; and Sundays 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Watch shop owners and artisans in action. Visit various businesses for live demonstrations of crafts such as scrapbooking, wood carving, fudge making and more.

Additional Events:

  • Gingerbread Log Home Display: In keeping with the strong tradition of log cabins throughout the Brown County countryside, participants will build 20 gingerbread log cabins. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from November 18-December 1 in the Traditional Arts Building.
  • Lighting Ceremony: Downtown Nashville twinkles with lights throughout the season, and it all kicks off November 23. Free hot chocolate, milk and cookies will be available during an open house at the Visitor’s Center from 4-6 p.m. The lighting ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. at the Pavilion on Main Street.
  • Have a winter adventure: On Thursdays only, November 29 – December 20, visitors can try out ziplining or horseback riding for only $10. Tours are available at Holler Hoppin’ Zip Lines, Rawhide Ranch, and Explore Brown County.
  • Live Nativity Scenes: On December 1 & 8, enjoy live nativity scenes throughout the Village of Nashville from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Final scenes will end at the corner of Mound Street and North Van Buren Street by the Holly Shop.
