I just experienced one of those picture perfect fall Saturdays, a day when I’m reminded why I love living in this part of the country. In my opinion, fall is best experienced out in nature, soaking up the colors and feeling the crisp air on your face. So we headed to one of Indiana’s most natural places, Traders Point Creamery, where focusing on the land and how it sustains us is a way of life at this organic dairy farm on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
I loved just wandering the farm and eating a delicious lunch at their restaurant, The Loft, this weekend. But if you visit next weekend, you’re sure to be dazzled by even more tasty treats and entertainment, when the farm celebrates Oktoberfest, its signature fall event.
There will be music from Polka Boy, one of the area’s most popular and fun bands. Food, perhaps what Traders Point does best, will include a whole hog roast from Gunthrop Farms. And there will be a lot to do, including chances to watch the cows being milked, a bonfire, pumpkin patch, and artisan farm market, among other activities.
The event will run from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 13. Cost is $10 at the door, or $8 in advance (you can purchase online here). Kids 10 and under are free. Oktoberfest is a fundraiser for the Traders Point Rural Historic District, which protects the beautiful land surrounding Eagle Creek for generations to come.
