Vevay, Indiana Celebrates Fall with Sleepy Hollow Event

The only Disney movie to scare me so badly I’ve never seen it again was the Headless Horseman. I watched it once when I was 6, learned the story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, and swore I’d never see it again. It’s been 39 years, and I’ve kept my promise.

So I always look over my shoulder every year about this time when one city or another promises “spooky fun” with their own Headless Horseman festival.Headless Horseman photo by Kendal Miller

Vevay, Indiana (Switzerland County) assures me I don’t need to be alarmed, since they will have a friendly Headless Horseman clattering through the streets of downtown Vevay as part of their Sleepy Hollow event on Saturday, October 6th, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The event is held around the courthouse square off main street, and will feature apple and pumpkin pie baking contests — none of which I was invited to judge, I might add. Sadly. — arts and crafts vendors, an antique tractor show, and live entertainment. There will even be a farmers market.

The arts and crafts vendors, as well as the stores in Vevay, will have items for sale for holiday decorating, as well as a chance to get a jump on the Christmas shopping this year.

For more information on the Sleepy Hollow event, lodging, and local businesses, visit the Switzerland County Tourism website or call them at (812) 427-3237.
