My husband is a Notre Dame grad, so needless to say, fall Saturdays in our house involve cheering on his beloved Fighting Irish. (He happily returns the favor in the winter by being just as loud and proud for my Butler Bulldogs).
I’ve learned to appreciate the history and tradition that goes along with a home football game weekend. And it really is a weekend-long experience, with activities and events beginning on Friday and continuing through Sunday each home game weekend. Notre Dame has created a helpful Game Day Experience website to help you plan and navigate your time on campus.
One element that I’d like to check out this fall is the Friday Tunnel Tour. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Friday of any home football game weekend, you can get a behind-the-scenes look at Notre Dame Stadium at the north end, where the players run onto the field. Get your picture taken, see a unique view of Touchdown Jesus, and check out the fabled field. It’s free and open to the public, even if you don’t have a ticket to the game.
