Rising Sun Fine Arts & Crafts Festival, September 15-16, 2012

Rising Sun, Indiana (Ohio County) will play host to artists and craftsmen from around the country in its 4th annual Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16 right there along the Ohio River.

Over 40 artists will display their works for the public, who can peruse the works, speak to the artists, and of course, buy a piece or two that moves them. The artists will also compete for over $8,000 in prizes. My friend, Wug Laku, an Indianapolis artist and owner of wUG LAKU’S STUDIO & gARAGE (it’s an artist thing; don’t ask) will be this year’s judge.Southwest Art by Denny Wainscott

One artist to watch out for, said my friend Kendal Miller, PR coordinator, is Denny Wainscott of Frankfort, IN. He was juried into the event for a third year, having won a Best in Category and a Best of Show in previous events. Wainscott is no slouch in art circles: he’s won awards in the Western Design Conference in Jackson Hole, WY; Talbot Street Art Festival in Indianapolis; and Best of Category five years in a row at the Indio, CA, Southwest Art Show.

In addition to the art, you’ll also have a chance to listen to live entertainment: Jamonn Zeiler, acoustic guitar and vocals on Saturday morning; Kristi Kruer, ukulele and vocals on Saturday afternoon. Ron Whitney (Ihrig) will play contemporary piano music Sunday morning, and Rob McAllister, acoustic guitar and vocals, will play on Sunday afternoon. And Magic Mike — the magician, not the movie — will perform with balloons and magic on Sunday.

There will also be food and wine available, with wine tastings provided by Crescent Street Brewery, Powers Winery, Fiekerts Homestead Wines, and other local wineries.

I can’t think of a better way to spend a beautiful September weekend than looking at some art, listening to music, and enjoying some excellent food. And, family schedule willing, I may just be there.

Maybe Wug can give me a ride.
