Vevay, IN, to Host Cabela’s King Kat Classic Tournament

If you’re a fisherman (Fisherperson? Fishermyn? Angler?), you’ll want to check out the upcoming Cabela’s King Kat Classic Tournament Trail Super Event in beautiful Vevay, Indiana (Switzerland County) along the Ohio River on August 10 and 11. Fishermen will have the opportunity to compete for $10,000 in cash and prizes, and may even win a chance to move on to the Cabela’s King Kat Classic in late September. Weigh-in takes place along the Ohio River at Paul Ogle Riverfront Park in downtown Vevay.

The King Kat Trail was formed in 2002 by Crappie USA, Inc. as a way to reach a market of fishermen that is normally overlooked. Since then, the organization has become the leader in competitive catfish events with over 70 affiliate clubs. Their purpose is to “establish a family-oriented, cost effective and competitive arena for catfish anglers as the foundation to promote products and services for the businesses national sponsors.”

Participants in the King Kat USA Tournament in Morgantown, WV.

Registration is $200 per team, and you can register online. All participants must be members of the King Kat Association. Late registration and a Captain’s meeting/seminar will be held at the host hotel — the Ogle Haus Inn — at 1013 W. Main Street, Vevay, on Thursday, August 9, 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

Fishing hours are 6:30 am – 3:00 pm, and all participants must report with their live catches at the weigh-in line by 4:00 pm. There is a limit of five fish per day and six rods per team in use at one time. For a complete set of rules, along with team and King Kat Association registration, go to the King Kat USA website.

The event is also sponsored by Switzerland County Tourism (one of my favorite places to visit — Switzerland County, not the Tourism office. Although they’re pretty cool too). If you’re interested in participating, or are being dragged along by a participant, you can find information on lodging, businesses and attractions at the Switzerland County Tourism website or by calling 812.427.3237.

Telephone registration and additional tournament information is available by calling 270.395.6774.
