The Best Front Porch in Indiana

If you are a sucker for front porches — and I am — you owe it to yourself to head to French Lick, Indiana and enjoy the ambience of the front porch at the French Lick Springs Resort Hotel.

There are plenty of reasons to visit French Lick Springs and its sister hotel, West Baden. But the front porch at French Lick Springs is reason enough.

The porch is lined with rocking chairs that allow visitors to look out over the lawn of the resort. It’s the perfect place to enjoy ice cream from Scoops, the ice cream and gift shop conveniently located inside the lobby of the grand hotel.

It’s a place for card games and conversation. In addition to the rocking chairs, the porch offers several patio tables and chairs, as well as outdoor loveseats and coffee tables.

It can also be a place for entertainment.

The porch at French Lick Springs invites a slower pace. On a recent trip to the hotel with my boys, we sat and played “I Spy.” There were no interrupting cell phones or binging-zinging handheld video games or even ears plugged with buds funneling in popular music. Just a mom and her sons enjoying conversation and time together.

If you think there’s a better front porch in Indiana, I’d love to hear about it.
