Linton Freedom Festival, July 1 – 7, 2012

Every city and town is known for something — world’s first, world’s biggest, Indiana’s first or biggest. Every city and town has some claim to fame that no other city has.

In little Linton, Indiana, that’s the Linton Freedom Festival Parade, which is billed as “Indiana’s Largest Independence Day Parade,” which is expected to bring nearly 40,000 people to Linton this year. The festival runs from Sunday, July 1 through Saturday, July 7.

That’s a bigger population than many cities and towns, and they’re all showing up to watch floats, bands, and clowns, to listen to music, watch bed races, and of course, a fireworks display.

The Linton Freedom Festival is held to celebrate the town of Linton, which is located in Greene County, near Bloomington. During the event, you can listen to live bands, watch a lip sync contest, go for rides on the midway, and check out arts and crafts booths.
