Some of my most treasured moments with my mom involve the two of us sitting around and having a long chat while drinking a cup of tea. But I’ve never experienced the long-standing British tradition of an authentic “afternoon tea.” So I loved reading about the Mother’s Day Tour and Tea in French Lick.
On May 12, you can take a tour of the French Lick Springs Hotel, followed by a fancy tea at The Mansion. The Mansion was once home to Ed Ballard, a former owner of the West Baden Springs Hotel (one of the most stunning structures in the state, in my opinion). After learning all about the amazing history of this place, I’d love to relive the glory days of the Indiana town by experiencing afternoon tea with all its finery, like finger sandwiches, pastries, and clotted cream.
More about the tours of the two hotels is available at the Indiana Landmarks website. I’d highly recommend making a weekend of it, and treating your mom to an overnight at one of the hotels and a trip to either spa.
Tour and Tea begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. In addition to the May 12 date, this special experience will also be offered on July 14, September 29, and December 15. Cost is $42 per person. For more information and to register, call 866.571.8687 or email swoodward@indianalandmarks.org.
