Finding the Perfect Pumpkin

Searching for the perfect pumpkin is one of the best rituals of the fall season. Granted, pumpkins seem to look alike, but any kid will tell you they know when they’ve found just the right one.

Take a hayride to the pumpkin patch at Stonycreek Farm.

Kids (and kids at heart), will love looking for “the one” at Stonycreek Farm in Noblesville, Indiana. Their Annual Pumpkin Harvest Festival runs daily, 10 am to 5 pm, through October 31. You can take a short hayride through the woods to their pumpkin patch, visit with the farm animals, ride on a pony and shoot the corn cob cannon! They have special events planned each weekend, so check their calendar before you go.

You can also stop by Spencer Farms and pick a pumpkin right off the vine. While you’re there, you can pick your own raspberries too. And make sure you take home some fall treats. They have apples, homemade pies and other goodies.

Families who prefer taking the train to a pumpkin patch, can climb aboard the Pumpkin Train. Kids enjoy riding the rails, seeing the farm animals along the way and then scouring the fields to find the “best” pumpkin to take home. The train leaves the Noblesville station twice a day, every Saturday and Sunday from October 1 through October 23. This train sells out quickly, so make your reservations now.

Once you have your pumpkin, there’s plenty more to do in our 8 Great Towns. If you’re already thinking about the scarier parts of the season, mark your calendars for the Headless Horseman at Conner Prairie or sign up for a Ghost Walk.

We’re only a few days into fall, and the fun is just beginning!
