65th Annual Persimmon Festival in Mitchell, IN – September 17 – 25, 2011

The persimmon — the American one, not the Japanese one — is a little-known fruit that grows throughout Lawrence County. To celebrate this sweet treat, Mitchell, Indiana holds the Persimmon Festival every year.

This year marks the 65th year they’ve held the Persimmon Festival, and they’re inviting everyone to celebrate with them, and even have a chance to try some of the world-famous persimmon pudding.

There are carnival rides, food for sale, exhibits of antique tractors and classic cars, as well as arts and crafts. There will also be performers throughout the week on the main stage. And the Grand Persimmon Festival Parade starts at 2 pm on Saturday, September 24. It’s billed as one of Indiana’s largest parades, so it’s not something you should miss.
