The Indiana State Fair has been a Hoosier tradition for over 150 years and has maintained some great traditions during that time – the annual 4-H competitions, live entertainment and last, but MOST DEFINITELY not least – the highly anticipated food creations and combinations. Although tradition runs high in these parts, visitors look forward to the new traditions formed each year to continue in state fairs to come. So the real question is: What’s new at the Indiana State Fair in 2011? Here are a few features to be on the lookout for:
“Willkommen to Germany!” Exhibit – Visitors will be able to experience first-hand the traditional and modern ways of Germany and its rich presence in Indiana through this exhibit, presented by the Indiana German organizations and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Performances, food and displays will take fair-goers on a leap across the pond!
Year of Soybeans - In celebration of the $3 billion soybean industry and the Hoosier farmers that contribute to it, there will be an array of activities and displays throughout the fairgrounds that pay homage to the product and its numerous uses in Indiana.
Fido 500/Wiener 100 Mini-Dog Races – Substitute the Brickyard and 500 track with German-bred canines and watch these athletes race around the track in the grandstand side lot. There are several races throughout the duration of the fair!
MHS presents The Stars of the Peking Acrobats - The People’s Republic of China’s finest gymnasts, cyclers, jugglers and tumblers will showcase acts of true strength, balance and flexibility through demonstrations of feats performed by the best. Experience this blend of Chinese culture, acrobatics and a little bit of humor three times daily at the Dow Agrosciences Celebration Park.
Priefert Percherons - From Mt. Pleasant, TX comes Jason Goodman and his team of big, beautiful Percheron Draft horses to show off their incredible skills to fair-goers of all ages. This exhibit is a living tribute to a time where America relied on “real horse power” to get things done.
Timberworks Lumberjack Show - World-class lumberjacks will compete in a series of events featuring axe throwing, speed pole climbing, hot sawing and log rolling in front of audiences in the Riley Fun and Fitness Park. Shows are free three times daily over the course of the fair.
