I had the pleasure of living in the heart of downtown Indianapolis for about 7 years following college. I loved every minute of it–awesome restaurants just steps away from my front door, cultural attractions around every corner, and a walk-everywhere lifestyle.
One of my favorite discoveries was Fountain Square. A culturally vibrant neighborhood on the near southeast side of the city, there’s so much to do in just a few small city blocks. But in the summer, my recommendation is a night under the stars on the Rooftop Garden. It’s the perfect place to meet friends for a drink before duckpin bowling (in the same building!) or catching a show at Radio Radio. Or you can simply take your time and savor a meal from the Shelbi Street Cafe menu with the Indianapolis skyline as your backdrop.
The rooftop is open for dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It’s only open to those 21 and over. This weekend, you can enjoy 20% select wines by the bottle with this coupon (expires July 31). My favorite menu items are the Gingham Salad, the Arizona pizza, and just about anything off the dessert menu!
So if you need a unique date idea or simply want to show off the best views you’ll find in the city, plan a night at the Rooftop Garden in Fountain Square. It’s located at the top of the Fountain Square Theatre Building, 1105 Prospect Street in Indianapolis.
