Today is July 1. In just six weeks, my kids go back to school. That’s left me juggling the calendar to figure out how to fit in everything we want to do before leaving the freedom of summer behind us. Here’s what’s on our list:
- Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari — It’s an annual tradition. Two days are a must. One for the amusement park, one for the water park.
- Fort Wayne Tin Caps Game — Yes, we have minor league baseball in Indianapolis, but Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne is worth the drive. I’ve been there once, in the rain. It was enough to entice me to come back on a nice day.
- Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden — A trip to Evansville, my husband’s hometown, is always on the agenda. Because most of our recent visits were to visit my ailing mother-in-law, it’s been a while since we’ve been tourists in town. We want to check out Amazonia, the zoo’s rainforest exhibit.
- Pierogi Fest — A few years ago, I didn’t know what pierogi was. But now I’m a fan of these potato and cheese stuffed dumplings of Polish origin. The annual festival in Whiting, IN takes place July 29-31.
All that, plus some time to soak up the sun at the pool and read a few not-for-educational-value books will make this one fine summer indeed. What do you hope to do before the school bell rings again?
