The May/June 2011 issue of Midwest Living magazine features the Top 30 bed and breakfast destinations in America’s midwest. Four Indiana bed & breakfasts made the list. They include:
Stonebridge Inn and Spa, Batesville
Beiger Mansion, Mishawaka
The selections were made by a group of Midwest Living’s on-staff editors and more than 40 professional freelance travel writers, who spent more than a year researching B&Bs. To be considered, a B&B had to offer rooms inside of a home for overnight visits, the rooms must have private baths, and the B&B had to serve a homemade breakfast. Inns, boutique hotels and resorts were not part of the research.
In 18 months, the editors and writers stayed at more than 100 B&Bs in the Midwest. They used report cards created specifically to rate each stay. The report card asked the writers to rank on a scale of 1 to 10 the following:
- the décor
- the owners’ approach to hospitality
- the quality of the room amenities
- the quality of the food served
- the food’s presentation
- the atmosphere in the B&B and at breakfast
The report card also asked whether anything detracted from the stay. The highest-scoring B&Bs made the list that appears in the May/June issue of the magazine, which is available on newsstands until June 21, 2011.
