I’ve been a fan of craft-brewed beer for several years now, and in the past couple years, I’ve even started homebrewing my own recipes, so I always cringe a little bit when I go to a restaurant or bar and they only have the standard domestics and imports like Bud, Miller, Corona, Heineken, etc. You might call me a beer snob, and I’m okay with that label.

Luckily, there are lots of restaurants in Indianapolis and throughout the state where you can get some of Indiana’s craft-brewed beer (like Scotty’s Brewhouse), but there’s only one place that serves ONLY Indiana-brewed beer from all over the state: the Tomlinson Tap Room located on the second floor of the historic Indianapolis City Market.

Working in conjunction with the Brewers of Indiana Guild, the Tomlinson Tap Room features up to 16 different Hoosier-brewed beers at a time, their current selections some of their past selections included Crown Brewing Brown Ale, New Albanian Thunderfoot, People’s Brewing Pilsener, Big Woods Busted Knuckle Red and beer from Power House Brewing. Open Wednesday-Saturday from 2pm-10pm, it’s the prefect place to stop by for drinks after work or on the weekend if you’re visiting Indy.

Our friends over at Visit Indy wrote a post about the Tomlinson Tap Room during their grand opening in November ’10, and you can read their post here. One of the coolest things about the Tomlinson Tap Room (other than the fact that they serve only Indiana-brewed beer – which is a severely under-celebrated industry in our state) is their Indiana Brewery Passport (See picture below). You can pick one up at the Tap Room and if you buy a pint or a growler from each brewery in Indiana, you get your name put up on a plaque behind the bar! Each Thursday is a $10 growler refill day, so get yourself 64 ounces of fresh local beer at a great price.
