At Indiana Dunes State Park you can experience the pure white sandy beaches, crystal blue water and miles of trails through the dunes of Lake Michigan right here in Indiana.  A great way to spend a weekend with your family, an afternoon with great friends or a romantic getaway with that special someone, the Dunes have something for everyone.  The state park offers a nature center for the nature enthusiasts, picnicking and shelters for family get togethers, walking trails or cross-country skiing trails for the athletes, fishing, camping and, of course, swimming and the beach.

Last summer, my boyfriend and I spent a wonderful afternoon at the Indiana Dunes State Park.  We laid on the beach and soaked up the sun, played in the water for a while and hiked through the dunes.  It was a great chance for us to connect and enjoy the trails that run through beautiful wooded areas, with breaks in the trees that offer stunning views of Lake Michigan and the dunes.  We ate some ice cream at the pavilion located on the beach and enjoyed a romantic sunset before heading home for the night.

With over 2000 acres of historic, primitive and unique Hoosier landscape, the Indiana Dunes State Park is a great getaway destination for anyone.  In Porter County at the north end of State Road 49, the Indiana Dunes State Park encompasses more than three miles of pristine beach along Lake Michigan’s southern shore.  It caught the attention of locals, scientists and nature enthusiasts in the early 1900s who recognized its value and potential and, as a result, the State Park was established in 1925.

In addition to the typical summer activities, the Indiana Dunes State Park has some holiday traditions as well.  For more information about the Indiana Dunes State Park and the various activities it offers, visit nps.gov/indu/index.htm.
