Culver, IN – Quaint Sophistication

Located just two hours north of the thriving metropolis of Indianapolis sits a quiet town half surrounded by Lake Maxinkuckee, and the other half by beautifully preserved country. The town of Culver is the typical small town to a T, but one visiting will find a uniqueness that few other small towns offer.

The Culver Cove

I’ve been to Culver a few times before. Back in high school, I had the opportunity to attend the Specialty Camp at Culver Academies a few summers in a row. Although I fell in love with the camp and boarding school campus, I never got the opportunity to enjoy the actual town surrounding it. This past weekend, I attended a formal that was hosted at the Culver Cove, a beautiful resort and conference center located right on the lake.

The Cove was absolutely delightful. The ambiance of the lake and beautiful landscaping complemented our spacious accommodations perfectly. And a home-prepared dinner was even more enjoyable on our own private deck. The service was great and very helpful too with directions and recommendations for sites and restaurants. I would recommend the Cove as a great year-round getaway destination.

The day we left, we had lunch at Cafe Max on South Main street. Once a movie house, the Cafe was a perfect snapshot of the community’s culture and history. Pictures and artifacts lined the walls and wonderfully reflected the small-town feel of Culver. I highly recommend the spinach omelet with feta cheese!

I remember I used to cry every time I had to leave camp at Culver Academies. Although no tears were shed upon my leaving, I will miss the quaint little town while i’m here in busy Indianapolis. I will also greatly miss the way I felt like a sophisticated member of society at the lush accommodations of the Culver Cove.
