Vendors at the Chesterton European Market
As summer comes to a close, towns all over Indiana say goodbye to farmer’s market bounties until the spring. Last week, I had the opportunity to visit Chesterton, Indiana’s European Market. My senses were delighted with the smell of freshly baked bread, the taste of artisan cheese samples, the sounds of local musicians, and the sights of beautiful art. I was also really impressed with the wide variety of handcrafted items for sale, beyond the typical market offerings like fresh produce.
In addition to the more than 150 registered vendors, one of the highlights of this market is its location. The market neighbors Chesterton’s Thomas Centennial Park, a beautiful plot of land in the middle of the historic downtown area. There are many galleries and cafes to stroll through nearby. You could easily fill an entire morning or afternoon wandering around this town.

The Chesterton European Market runs through the end of October, so you have a few weeks left to experience it yourself. The market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday. On October 30, the market will become Pumpkin Palooza. Kids will receive pumpkins to paint and vendors will be handing out treats.
