This is a great activity for a group, as you can taste from Grape Inspirations’ 40 different types of wines, then the staff will help you create your own wine. Four to six weeks later you can come back and bottle your wine. You’ll walk out with 28-30 bottles customized with a label of your design! The Broad Ripple Brewpub turns 20 this year and is a main staple in Broad Ripple’s “Brewery Row”. The first of what are now several brewpubs in Indianapolis’ Broad Ripple neighborhood, including Barley Island, Brugge Brasserie and the Upland Brewery Tasting Room. Brugge Brasserie isn’t your typical brewery. They’re actually a Belgian restaurant and brewery, so if you’re into craft-brewed Belgian ales this is the place for you! You can order some crepes, Mitraillettes (Belgian sandwiches), some of their famous mussels, but you can’t go without trying their Pomme Frites with homemade dipping sauces. Enjoy their signature beer, Tripel de Ripple, but be careful, it’s about 10% ABV. Hours are Mon-Thu 11am-12:30am; Fri & Sat 11am-1:30am; Sun Noon-9pm.

Indianapolis’ newest brewery isn’t like the others mentioned in this post. Sun King isn’t a restaurant and it isn’t really a tasting room either. Launched only recently, Sun King is more of a brewing warehouse where you can come and buy growlers and kegs of their beer to go. The best time to go is on Friday afternoons, when non-seasonal growlers sell for just $5. Don’t need a growler or keg’s worth of beer? you can buy 4-packs of 16-oz. cans of their Sunlight Cream Ale or Osiris Pale Ale as well. Hours are Mon-Wed CLOSED; Thu 5pm-7pm; Fri 3pm-7pm; a Sat 1pm-4pm.
