This time of year it’s hard to convince yourself to move off the comforts of your warm and delightful couch and meander into the freezing temps and gray skies of winter. This is also the time of year that cabin fever starts to set in – with the antsy boredom always nagging in the back of your mind. Ready for blue skies, green grass and a warm breeze – Spring is so close yet still so far away.

To break out of those Winter Blues – why not pack your bags and hop into your toasty car for a quick weekend retreat and venture just a little south of Indianapolis on I-65? A warm and cheery bed and breakfast has just debuted in Columbus, Indiana and is the perfect excuse to plan a little cabin fever getaway. The Inn at Irwin Gardens is picturesque and quaint with it’s old time charm, yet comfy and accommodating with modern amenities like free wireless internet and flat screen televisions.

The Inn at Irwin is a historic property that includes several incredible gardens with five “outdoor rooms” and five water features for guests to meander and enjoy.  There’s a separate herb garden, an elevated tea house, impressive sculptures, and wisteria bushes that were planted in the early 1900’s.

What I love about a good bed and breakfast is the breakfast! The Inn at Irwin Gardens boasts a scrumptious breakfast menu that varies, of course, but may consist of eggs benedict, Belgian waffles (YUM!) with fresh fruit and cream, blintzes, or homemade bagels and quiche. Breakfast is served in the formal dining room with an ornately detailed ceiling from 8:00 to 9:30. And for all those not-so-early-risers – don’t worry – a continental buffet breakfast can be made available before 8:00 and until 10:00.

Complimentary fruit, snacks, juice, milk, coffee, and soft drinks are available throughout the day in the Butler’s pantry. Guests will also find freshly brewed coffee on the second floor for easy access in the early morning.
