Three new exhibits await along the central canal in downtown Indianapolis.
1. At the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, home of the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Experience. The Indiana Experience includes both interactive and high-technology experiences, and is designed to share with the public the tremendous archival holdings of the IHS, which includes 1.6 million photographs, in easy and enjoyable ways.
Elements of the Experience includes:
• You Are There experiences – three-dimensionally recreated historic photographs that include trained first-person interpreters who interact with visitors and elicit personal connections to the past, allowing visitors to step back in time and become part of that history.
• Destination Indiana – a facilitated, interactive opportunity for visitors to “travel through time” using innovative digital technology, touch screens and displays of historic images and documents to explore and understand the story of Indiana as a place.
• The W. Brooks and Wanda Y. Fortune History Lab – a hands-on demonstration lab that allows visitors to learn and participate in conservation and preservation activities. Within that space, INvestigation Stations provide a series of activity areas for visitors to engage in the process of “doing” history as they learn how to analyze historic documents, research their family tree, search for clues in historic photographs and explore careers in history.
• The Cole Porter Room – an intimate multi-media space with a performer/facilitator and original materials dedicated to the interpretation of Cole Porter’s life and work.
Enjoy lunch at the Stardust Terrace Café onsite. Operated by Hoaglin To Go offering a wonderful selections of sandwiches, entrees and salads. The Basile History Market features the best of Indiana literature, art, music, jewelry, pottery, toys, games and much more.
The Indiana Experience begins March 20, 2010. Operating hours Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am-5 pm.
2. Indiana State Museum will feature two great opportunities to connect with Hoosier-raised President Abraham Lincoln.
a. Feb. 12 through April 11, 2010, the Library of Congress’ With Malice Toward None: The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Exhibition.
b. Feb. 12 through July 25, 2010, With Charity for All: The Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection will be on display. The exhibit will highlight artifacts that paint a picture of an ordinary man who rose to become, perhaps, the greatest leader in American history.
Both Lincoln exhibits are included with general admission. HOWEVER, timed-tickets are required from Feb. 12 through April 11, 2010.
