Richmond’s Old Fashioned Christmas Festival

Old Fashioned Christmas Festival

For the last several years, the spirit of Christmas has enchanted the Historic Depot District in Richmond, Indiana. Every Tuesday in December leading up to Christmas, the Historic Depot District is overwhelmed with holiday merriment. The streets are lined with shimmering luminaries as seasonal music warms the heart. Santa even shows up with his live reindeer which is a sure way to put a gleam in a child’s eye….not to mention the free Christmas Express train ride for the kiddies.

Train ride at Richmond Furniture Gallery (Small)Children of every age are awed by the Christmas Train Fantasy Land located inside the Richmond Furniture Gallery. The Richmond Furniture Gallery is a marvel in itself with it’s historic murals of Richmond and nostalgic charm all about. A balloon artist and face painters will be on site as a special treat for the young ones too. You can join in singing Christmas carols while riding through the downtown area on an old English double-decker bus or maybe you’d rather enjoy the fresh wintry air while relaxing in a horse-drawn carriage.

Bring your appetite as some tasty food is always available in the Depot District. Little Sheba’s Restaurant is housed in a vintage grocery store with original wooden floors, tin ceilings and walk-in cooler. Joe’s Pizza serves great pizza but will take you back to a much simpler time in this 1890′s building with beautiful woodwork and memorabilia. Ghyslain Chocolatier & Bistro has a contemporary flair with offerings of culinary artworks from sandwiches, salads, desserts and their famous hand-painted chocolates.

You won’t want to miss the opportunity to do last minute gift buying in several unique shops in the area. The At Home Kitchen & Gourmet Shop has delights for cooking, entertaining and home decor. Accessories unimaginable, clothing and jewelry can be found at CoCo’s, Good Life Emporium and the newly opened Prim & Proper Shop. Foster’s “E” Street Gallery features antiques and if you’re looking for fine wines, olive oils, cigars and other imports then stroll through Maria Mitrione’s Italian Market. Whatever engages you to get into the “holiday spirit”, you can be sure to find it in this Winter Wonderland of fun and celebration.

Festivities are every Tuesday, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. in the Historic Richmond Depot District, Ft. Wayne Ave, North 10th Street and North “E” Street. Visit their web-site at InHistoricRichmond.com or visitrichmond.org for more information including dates and times of carriage rides. Many activities are free, so don’t miss out!
