One of our favorite holiday traditions is going to cut down our own Christmas tree. It’s a tradition that dates back centuries and we always have a good time searching for that perfect tree. There’s just something cathartic about cutting down your own Christmas tree, hauling it hope and setting it up in the living room.
If you’re curious as to where you can find Christmas tree farms in Northwest Indiana to cut your own – I’ve put together a quick list for you.
Guse’s Christmas Tree Farm – Wanatah, Indiana
Santa makes an appearance on the weekends and you can ride a horse drawn carriage throughout the tree farm. They also have a Christmas shop where you can get decorations and fresh wreaths.
Directions: From Chicago: I-80/90 east to the Chesterton Exit (Hwy 49 South. Hwy 49 South to Plymouth exit (US Hwy 30 east. Use Hwy 30 east to Wanatah (intersection of US 30 & 421). Continue on US 30 for 4 more miles to CR 600W. Right on CR 600W 2-1/2 miles to farm.
Hensler Tree Nursery – Hamlet, Indiana
Santa is around along with real life Reindeer. There’s a Christmas shop and they give you a ride on a horse drawn carriage as you find your tree. They are a pretty big operation and this is usually where we go to get our tree every year.

Kingma’s Christmas Tree Farm – Demotte, Indiana
One of the smaller Christmas tree farms that provides a more intimate experience. They are most famous for their Holly shop.
Directions: They are located 2 miles south and 1 mile west of Demotte on the corner of Roads 1000 North and 900 West. From Chicago take 80-94 West to I-65 South. Go South to State Rd. 10 exit #250 (Demotte-Roselawn). Go 3 1/2 miles eat on 10 to 900 West, then 1 mile north. There will be signs to guide your way there.
