35th Annual Johnny Appleseed Festival

Johnny Appleseed Festival

Are you looking for some fun this weekend in Fort Wayne? Look no further than the 35th Annual Johnny Appleseed Festival. Everyone has heard of Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman), but very few people know that he’s from the Fort Wayne area and for the past 35 years the people have celebrated his memory with the Johnny Appleseed Festival. A great fall tradition in Fort Wayne, one of our own staff members will be at this year’s festival and will write about her experiences next week.

From JohnnyAppleseedFestival.com:

Each year the people of Fort Wayne invite visitors from throughout the nation to celebrate the pioneer spirit of John Chapman, better known as “Johnny Appleseed,” Chapman was a colorful character of the Indiana frontier in the early 1800′s.During the latter part of his life, Chapman traveled the countryside on foot, planting orchards in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas. In the process, he became a national folk hero and his gravesite memorial area in Fort Wayne’s Archer Park has been designated a National Historic Place and is identified as such on the National Register of Historic Places.
