Exploring Southeastern Indiana: Lantz House Bed and Breakfast – Centerville Indiana

My wife and I recently had the opportunity to explore historic Southeastern Indiana for a romantic weekend away. It was a fantastic experience this is part of series of posts about our trip.

Yesterday, I wrote about a lovely little historic town in Southeastern Indiana called Centerville. Today, I’m going to tell you about the loveliest little Bed and Breakfast we’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in: The Lantz House Bed and Breakfast.

The Lantz House is almost as old as Centerville. It’s a beautiful old house with cozy rooms, delicious breakfast and a kindly landlord. The Lantz house was built by a Wagon maker who built iconic Conestoga Wagons for the Oregon Trail – there’s an arch in the building where they would pass under.

The bed and breakfast has been lovingly restored and it kept in tip top condition. The furnishings match the look and feel of the place. There are even cuddly cats roaming around – they’re very friendly and enjoy being petted. The grounds are lovely with some of the most beautiful gardens I have ever seen.

We only stayed for a night but I wish we could have stayed for a week! It was so quiet, cozy and relaxing. We’ll definitely be making a trip back during leaf peeping season. We stayed in the Garden Suite – which is off in it’s own little building. You have your own private entrance and private garden. The biggest perk of the room is the jacuzzi in the bathroom – perfect for romantic getaways. There’s a TV in the room but we never turned it on – why would you watch TV in such a wonderful place that’s away from everything?

The highlight of our stay was breakfast – the innkeeper, Marcia Hoyt, served a delicious gourmet French Toast that simply melts in your mouth. I recommend the tea – it’s delicious and it’s a wonderful experience to sit in her restored dining room, admiring the furnishing while you sip a cup of tea. When you’re done with Breakfast, it’s a good time to walk to downtown Centerville and explore the lovely antique shops, while also admiring the beautiful historic homes.

Rooms range in price from $100-$150 a night – pretty affordable for a romantic night away in such a historic location. To make a reservation call Marcia Hoyt at 1-800-495-2689 for rooms and rates.

It’s an experience worth having.

Come back tomorrow for my write up about lovely Richmond, Indiana.
