My wife and I had the pleasure to visit Elkhart county for a romantic weekend a few weeks ago. This is the first post in a five post series about our adventure in Elkhart County.

The first thing we did on our way to Elkhart County was the Heritage Driving Tour. It’s an innovative audio driving tour of the most important sights in the county. All you do is pop in the CD where the tour starts in Elkhart and follow the directions.

During the tour, the CD tells you about exciting historical facts about the area, notable people and other fascinating information about Elkhart County, which is surprisingly rich in history. The tour begins and ends in Elkhart and takes you in a circle around the county.

Some Heritage Trail Tour Highlights:

Bonneyville Mill
Shipshewana
Goshen
Old Bag Factory
Amish Acres
And much more

The tour is free and you can pick up a CD and Map at the Elkhart County Visitor’s Center, which is just of I-90 in Elkhart. It’s a 90 miles tour and you can do it a few hours. You’ll discover a lot of interesting places that you’ll definitely want to go back and explore. If you want to stop at anytime, all you need to do is pause the CD.

I thought i knew the area very well and we discovered so many new things to do that we can’t wait to go back.

You can find out more information on the Heritage Trail Website, where you can also download an MP3 of the tour.
