The Bloomington Theatre Scene

Bloomington (Monroe County) is home to one of the state’s best, hardest-working theatre groups, the Bloomington Playwrights Project.

In addition to their regular schedule of edgy, non-traditional plays (so edgy, I couldn’t even list the name of the latest play here without causing an uproar. You can find the schedule at www.NewPlays.org), they’re sponsoring the BloomingPlays Festival, a festival of new plays by Indiana playwrights.

Hoosier playwrights have written ten minute, one-act, and full-length plays that have passed through numerous readings, revisions, and workshops. You, the theatre-goer (note the “re” in theatre, which means it’s fancy), will get to enjoy the best of the best during the three weekends in May. The BloomingPlays Festival features four different blocks of programming each weekend.
