Michigan City’s Hollywood Connection

If you drive down Lake Shore Drive in Michigan City, past the Zoo and Marquette park you’ll come across a rather strange looking place. A place that will look familiar if you’re a movie buff.

I’m talking about the Beachwalk Community in Michigan City. Beachwalk is a beachfront community of beautifully designed beach houses and cottages. It’s a planned community where everything was planned down to the paint colors and the bricks used in the streets. It’s quiet, it’s picturesque and oddly familiar.

Can you guess what movie it looks like?

If you guess The Truman Show, then you were right. No, the movie was not filmed here, but the Beachwalk community was designed by the same architects who applied the same design principles that were behind Seaside, Florida, where the movie was filmed.

Driving through Beachwalk feels like driving through a movie set. Everything is well maintained, houses are cute and colorful and the community is laid out well.

Most of the homes are owned by out-of-staters, who use them as weekend getaways. Here in Northwest Indiana, the weather is still pretty cool right now so you can wander the streets of Beachwalk and won’t come across very many people. The houses provide ample opportunity for nice pictures.

You can enjoy a piece of Beachwalk yourself by renting a cottage for a weekend or other extended period. Prices are pretty reasonable and the cottages are up to the highest standards. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway. The locale is scenic and you’re within walking distance of a private beach.

So, if you’re ever in Michigan City, take a drive through Beachwalk.

Check out Beachwalk’s Website for more information about the community and how to rent a cottage.
