This Christmas, I’m thinking May…

A month long celebration of Indiana racing, kicks off with the nation’s largest half marathon, the One America Mini Marathon and ends with the Indianapolis 500. This year’s (2009) celebration theme: Laps, Legends and Legacy; it’s a nod to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway‘s centennial era – opened in 1909, then held the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. I’m an avid runner. The 2009 mini-marathon will be my tenth mini – eighth year in a row. My New Year’s resolution (yes, before the New Year and, hopefully, will last through May) is to train harder and longer. So far, so good – I think. In February, I’ll be taking on my first marathon in order to prepare for the Mini. I know, sounds a little backwards, but it should make the Mini a breeze – don’t you think? So, here’s the plan – couple my running schedule with my love of the outdoors as often as possible to stay fresh and motivated – weather permiting, of course. Indiana’s parks, trails and greenways provide a lot of good reasons to run, as do the holiday treats I can’t refuse. Good thing it’s still December…
