Amish Backroads

Every year my mom, sisters and I head up to Shipshewana for our own girlfriend getaway. I’m not lying when I say we book our hotel rooms early! Usually in February/March we start picking our dates out on the calendar so we can get a room. One of the main attractions for us is the flea market and since it is only open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, May – October the rooms fill up fast!

We typically spend at least half a day at the flea market and then head into town to enjoy all the specialty shops including JoJo’s pretzels (you have to get one of these!), Town and Country Hardware and Yoder’s Department Store.

We always end the day with a filling meal at the Blue Gate. The homemade noodles and pies are excellent!

Farmstead Inn

Then we make our way to the Farmstead Inn. The lodging is fantastic and the continental breakfast is sure to fill you up.

Other area attractions you don’t want to miss:

Menno-Hof

Menno-Hof – A wonderful museum that educates visitors about the life and faith of the Amish and Mennonite heritage.

Splash Universe – New in 2007 this indoor water park has 25,000 square feet of water fun!
