Many don’t know that Kokomo is considered a “City of Firsts.” Some of these firsts include the first canned tomato juice, the first mechanical corn picker and the first stainless steel. But the most well known fact is that America’s first car was invented in Kokomo. Back in 1894, Elwood Haynes invented it and since then Kokomo has had a rich history with automobiles. You can learn more about the city’s tradition at the Kokomo Automotive Museum located right off of US 31.
Another must see if the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Factory. Twice a week they open their doors for the public to see behind the scenes for an admission fee of $1! Glass made here is used in stained glass windows, vases and art.
