Indiana became my adopted state several years ago when I attended college here. Then, after spending some time in Ohio and Georgia, I moved back to Indianapolis and it became my adopted hometown. I’m proud to consider myself a Hooiser and love that I live in Indianapolis. Indianapolis is the best of both worlds – big enough to have the amenities of a larger city, but small enough to still feel like a city you can wrap your arms around.
You can have a Summer to Celebrate in Indianapolis by checking out some of their well-known attractions and some you may not know about:
You Might Know About:
- The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis – The world’s largest Children’s Museum
- Indianapolis Colts preseason games – In August, the Colts move to their new stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium and take on the Chicago Bears in their first preseason game (get a sneak-peak at the stadium here)
- Indianapolis Museum of Art – Admission is free at the museum, located on 152 acres along the White River
- Allstate 400 at the Brickyard – The annual NASCAR race is held at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which will also host the Red Bull Indianapolis GP this year – the first motorcycle race held at the IMS in nearly a century.
- Indiana State Fair – Coming up August 6-17. This is THE place to be this summer!
You May Not Know About:
- Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra – Every summer they perform Symphony on the Prairie concerts on the lawn at Conner Prairie – a living history museum, in the Indianapolis suburb of Fishers
- Traders Point Creamery – An organic milk, cheese and dairy operation on Indianapolis’ north west side.
- White River State Park – One of the nation’s only urban state parks, White River State Park features summer concerts on the lawn, the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indianapolis Indians’ (AAA Baseball) stadium, The Eiteljorg Museum and the Indiana State Museum.
