A sweet and fruity scent drifts through the Toyota Blue Ribbon Pavilion early Thursday morning as the competition judges gather to sample this year’s entries. The noticeably different aroma comes from more than 3200 different types of wine entered in the 17th annual Indy International Wine Competition.
Judge Jeffrey Epler of Shelbyville samples a classic white table wine. Two panels of judges, including award winning amateur winemakers, American Wine Society certified judges, and wine supply shop consultants, deliberate and comment on every wine that is returned to the winemakers.
From the Marron River Vineyards in British Colombia Canada, winemaker Colin McFadyen tastes different variations of white fruit wines. Entries for this year’s competition came from more than 42 states and 17 different countries.
