INTERNSHIPS for 2010

INTERNSHIP APPLICATION

Departments and available positions:

Fair Board Office: Position provides assistance in the coordination, planning and implementation of the State Fair, particularly interacting with Indiana State Fair Board members and their support staff. Events include the Brewer’s Competition, among others. Positions open to those of all areas of study. Applicants for this position should be at least 21 years of age. Entry Department: Interns receive and process entries to 4-H and Open Class competitions and exhibits and provide excellent customer service to exhibitors. The department’s Accounting Intern interacts daily with the Accounting Department in the preparation of daily account reconciliations and other accounting functions. Data Entry Clerks process entries and perform general office tasks. The Exhibitor Mailing Clerk prepares mailings of receipts, tickets and parking passes for exhibitors. Arboreal Identifier: The agricultural theme for the 2010 State Fair is “The Year of Pigs”. This position will highlight this theme as well as Indiana trees through fun and educational programming and events. This position is good for a student with interest and experience in agriculture or landscaping. For a full description for this position, click here.

Education Department: These positions focus on the research and implementation of educational programming taking place during the Fair and activities of the State’s Largest Classroom. Interns develop programs using curriculum provided by the department. Excellent for those with an academic background in education, social work, family studies, psychology or biology. Human Resources: Help with the enormous task of hiring and processing approximately 1,000 seasonal employees to work the Indiana State Fair. Duties include performing background checks, scheduling and executing employee interviews, recruiting and scheduling fundraising groups and processing payroll paperwork. This position is good for students with a background in human resources, business or any other area of study. For a full description for this position, click here.

Sign Shop: Interns help design and produce signs and banners for all State Fairgrounds events including the State Fair while providing excellent customer service to everyone we serve. Positions are excellent for candidates pursuing a career in Graphic Design and are available to those of all areas of study. For a full description for this position, click here.

Entertainment/Special Events: Interns gain experience while promoting the State Fair’s events and special promotions across Indiana and nationwide. Duties include event preparation and implementation, Fair program distribution and general marketing communications. Positions are excellent for those with an academic background in marketing, communications, public relations, ag communications and advertising. For a full description for this position, click here.

Media Relations: Gain experience by writing press releases, covering events and assisting statewide media for the Indiana State Fair. Excellent candidates include those with a background in journalism, communications, public relations, media arts, English and ag communications. For a full description for this position, click here.

Sales: Position is dedicated to coordinate group ticket sales, assist with the rental and arrangements of State Fair Party Tents, and to assist with web marketing, concessions and event ticket sales. This is an excellent position for a student with an interest in sales, marketing and business. For a full description, click here.

Gates & Parking: This position provides assistance with all areas of department planning for the 2009 State Fair such as creating orientation materials, setting up gates and parking lots and assisting with employment office tasks. Supplies Department: Are you someone who can get things? The Supplies Department aids in the acquisition of materials at the best available prices for all Fair and Fairgrounds departments. Positions open to those of all areas of study. For a full description for this position, click here.

Technology: Works with both computer hardware and software. This position acts as the help desk for all Fair departments throughout the summer. Excellent for a student with an IT background. For a full description for this position, click here.

Contracts Department: The Contracts Intern performs a variety of administrative procedures in the preparation and implementation of contracts with outside vendors for goods and services. This position is open to those of all areas of study. For a full description for this position, click here.

Fair Employment Opportunities

The Indiana State Fair will be holding its second annual Job Fair in June to fill Fair-only seasonal positions. Please check back for more details. The 2010 Indiana State Fair dates are August 6-22.
