Giant Hot Air Balloon Race presented by Indiana Propane Gas Foundation

A wondrous kick-off to the Indiana State Fair. You have to rise early to see these colorful beacons lift high into the sky from the Infield.

The Balloon Race begins at 6:50 AM on Wed Aug 6 with the launching of the Indiana Propane Gas Foundation Hare Balloon from the grass infield. The rest of the 29 balloons in the registered field will be launched to give chase. All of the balloons should be in the air by 7:30 AM, weather permitting. The direction the balloons will fly depends on the wind currents that morning. Listen to your favorite radio station or TV to get updated information on the projected flight path.

The Balloon Glow takes place on Tuesday evening, Aug 5 at dusk - apx 8:45 - 9:15 PM, weather permitting. The balloons inflate but do not leave the ground and spectators can walk among the balloons and take pictures as the beautiful fabric is illuminated by the burners against the twilight sky.
