Indiana Curiosities: A Walk Thru the Wacky Side of Hoosier Life - Did you know that there's a "Wizard of Oz Museum" in Chesterton, Indiana? Can you imagine living in a modernly - equipped, environmentally friendly home that costs less than a $1/day? There's one in Pendleton, Indiana.
These are just a few of the mind-boggling displays you will see when you visit this display based on a book written by local author and media personality Dick Wolfsie. The exhibit uncovers interesting oddities from all corners of our state.
Free International Circus Hall of Fame Parade – The International Circus Hall of Fame of Peru, Ind., leads a special, one-day only parade of circus animals and entertainers down Biofuels Main Street at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13. This well established Hoosier attraction will have all kinds of traditional circus elements on display as one of the highlights of “Kids’ Day” at the fair.
Comcast presents Kachunga & the Alligator - After nearly 20 years of successfully entertaining audiences around the world, this fun and informative show entertains fairgoers for all 12 days of the event. Kachunga & The Alligator began in an attempt to educate people about the American alligator. The show certainly does that, but it also uses humor and dangerous stunts to keep kids of all ages riveted through each performance. The show will be in the Riley Fun Park three times daily.

The Pork Chop Revue featuring Oink the Singing Pig – It’s true… a singing pig! Oink may be the featured attraction of The Pork Chop Revue, but the rest of this pack of pigs is just as entertaining. “Cousin Grumpy” also gets this group of very smart swine to dance, leap hurdles, roll barrels and perform other tricks. The revue has been going strong for more than 50 years and will put on three shows a day in the Riley Fun Park.
“Giants of the Prairie” Rare Historic Tractor Display - Three extremely rare tractors – “The Friction” built in 1908; “The Mogul” built in 1915; and “The Titan” built in 1917 – were manufactured by International Harvester and significant in the evolution of the farm tractor. These three tractors are the only ones left that are totally restored.
Tapestry of Color, Artists of Brown County from the Flanner & Buchanan Collection – On temporary loan from Judge Paul Buchanan, this display features some of the best Hoosier artists’ work for fair visitors to enjoy in the Home & Family Arts Building all 12 days of the fair.
Indiana State Fair Demolition Derby – An old-fashioned, “drive it ‘til it dies” demolition derby returns to the fairgrounds when drivers compete for a $5,000 purse presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts on the Fair’s final day, Aug. 19. A free fireworks show follows the derby!

Red Hat and Pink Hat Day – The national organization of thousands of mature women will come together for fun and socializing at the fain on Aug. 14. The day will include special events, such as a cooking demonstration, a fun Fashion Show and Red Hat Decorating Contest. All participants are then invited to be a part of the Daily Parade – units will include a kazoo band, horse riders, pom pom squad and more.
Miniature Llamas – This year the miniature llamas will make their State Fair debut! Fairgoers can view the llamas in Aug. 17, 18 & 19. Exhibition Judging only – Sunday, August 19 in West Pavilion. Llamas are classified as “miniature” when they are under 38”.
Autographed Quilt of Baseball Legends – A mother-daughter team of northern Indiana began collecting the signatures of baseball players 24 years ago. The quilt features the signatures of Barry Bonds, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Pete Rose to name a few of the 54 autographs.
