Crown Point, IN -- Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita today announced that an arrest warrant was successfully served on Daniel J. Swift in Lake County. Swift is facing 58 securities-related charges as the result of an investigation initiated by Rokita's office. Swift is charged with 18 counts of selling unregistered securities, 18 counts of selling securities without a license, 17 counts of committing fraud in the offer or sale of a security, one count of corrupt business influence in the sale of securities and four counts of forgery. All 58 counts are Class C felonies, which are each punishable by up to eight years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Swift was arrested at his Crown Point business, High School Sports Publication, Incorporated. Bond has been set at $1.16 million.

Rokita's Prosecution Assistance Unit has been investigating Swift since late September. The investigation was initiated after one of Swift's alleged victims filed a complaint with the Secretary of State's office. All of the 14 alleged victims were living in Indiana and Illinois at the time of their dealings with Swift. It is believed Swift took more than $900,000, including promised interest, from his victims.

"These victims were scammed out of their life savings," Rokita said. "One victim was a Purple Heart recipient who invested funds received as a result of his service-related injuries. Another was a single mother who invested funds she received from a work-related injury and settlement. These charges send a message that state and local officials will not sit by and watch citizens be victimized by white collar criminals."

The charges are the joint effort of the Secretary of State's office, the Lake County Prosecutor's office and the Crown Point Police Department. "Charles Williams, Kimberly Haskins and Mark Mader from my Prosecution Assistance Unit worked very closely with local officials, including Lake County's Chief Deputy Prosecutor Barbara McConnell, to bring these charges against Mr. Swift," Rokita said. "The cooperation between the different agencies involved was phenomenal."
