Rokita Applauds First Lake County Voter Fraud Charges

Indianapolis, IN - Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita today issued the following statement regarding charges filed by Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter and Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter and indictments issued by a special grand jury. The indictments and the charges are related to allegations of voter fraud in the May 2003 Primary Election in Lake County.

"Over the last six months I have been a vociferous supporter of efforts to root out election fraud in Lake County. The election fraud that occurred in the 1999 and 2003 primary elections must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

"Today's actions are a good first step in our effort to give government back to the people of Lake County. People who have followed these cases know that these charges and indictments are the tip of the voter fraud iceberg in Lake County."

"I commend Prosecutor Bernard Carter and Attorney General Steve Carter for their work in bringing the first in what I'm sure will be a long line of charges. I also want to thank the members of the grand jury for their perseverance and hard work."
