HAVA Funding Bill Passes U.S. Senate
Rokita thanks Senators Lugar and Bayh for support

Indianapolis, IN - Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita today announced that a bill passed Thursday by the United States Senate would provide up to $53 million for election reforms in Indiana if enacted into law.

Indiana Senators Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh supported the bill, which passed as part of the Transportation/Treasury/Administration Appropriation package.

"I want to thank Senators Lugar and Bayh for their continued support for full funding to implement the Help America Vote Act of 2002. Senators Lugar and Bayh understand how important it is for our counties to receive this funding so they can upgrade voting machines and make needed election reforms," Rokita said.

The bill will now go to a House and Senate Conference Committee. The Help America Vote Act requires that all punch card and lever-machine voting systems be replaced by January 1, 2006.
