Secretary of State Rokita Educates Hispanic Hoosiers

Fort Wayne, IN -- Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is reaching out to Hispanic Hoosiers at this weekend's "Fiesta Fort Wayne." Rokita's office will sponsor a booth at the 30th Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival to distribute materials in both Spanish and English that will help educate voters, investors, and small business owners.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to inform all Hoosiers. I have made sure that important materials like the Voter's Bill of Rights can be read by all citizens - whether they speak English or Spanish, " Rokita said.

Among the items that will be available in Spanish for those that stop by the information booth are the Indiana Voter's Bill of Rights and voter registration forms. Rokita's office is also working to translate more educational materials into Spanish. All Hoosiers that are eligible to vote will be able to register at the booth.

The festival takes place this Friday and Saturday in downtown Fort Wayne. The activities begin at 11:30 AM and will continue until midnight each day. The event celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 through October 15.

Indiana's Hispanic population has exploded over the past decade. The number of Hispanic Indiana residents increased by 117% over the past decade, according to 2000 census bureau data.

Rokita reminds Hoosiers that they can also find information about elections, investing and small business matters by visiting his website, www.sos.IN.gov .
