Rokita to serve on Election Assistance Commission Standards Board

Indianapolis, IN -- On Tuesday, June 29, 2004, Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita will meet with other election administrators and experts from around the country in Houston as part of the United States Election Assistance Commission Standards Board. As required by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA), the Board will present its views on issues in the administration of Federal elections and formulate recommendations to the Election Assistance Commission (EAC).
"The Help America Vote Act of 2002 is the most significant set of election reforms since the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Implementing those reforms is no small task and will require new voting equipment, new technologies, new policies and in many cases an entirely new way of conducting elections. It is important that the members of the Standards Board work diligently and make the best possible recommendations to the EAC regarding successfully implementing HAVA in our states," Rokita said.
The Standards Board's mission is to advise the EAC through review of the voluntary voting systems guidelines described in the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). The Standards Board will also advise the EAC through a review of best practices recommendations.
