Secretary of State Earns International Award for Streamlined Online Business Services

Honor coincides with anniversary of launch of INBiz portal for online business registration

Indianapolis (May 27) - Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita's Business Services Division is the recipient of the 2008 Merit Award, an honor bestowed by the International Association of Commercial Administrators (IACA) for programs that improve efficiency and customer service in government administration.

Launched one year ago, INBiz is an online portal designed to allow most new Indiana businesses to be chartered with the Secretary of State quickly and conveniently online.

"This prestigious award tells us that IACA recognizes our forward-thinking efforts to help businesses grow in Indiana by providing better, faster and cheaper service," Rokita said. "Our success in becoming more business-friendly is an example of how Indiana is a national leader in improving administration and driving efficiency."

INBiz, found on the Secretary of State's Web page at www.sos.in.gov, was developed to dramatically modernize the Business Services Division's process for filing formation and/or registration documents. With INBiz, the process for incorporating a new business in Indiana became paperless and was trimmed from days to just minutes. According to April statistics, over 63 percent of eligible new business in Indiana are being registered through INBiz.

INBiz is part of the Secretary of State's overall strategy to help Indiana businesses spend less time interacting with government and more time focusing on growth. Additional future streamlined services will include online access to many critical documents businesses must now request via mail. Also, Rokita's Business Services Division is leading a project to create seamless sharing of businesses' data among state agencies.

"Congratulations to Secretary of State Todd Rokita and the Business Services Division on receiving this well-deserved award," said Marci A. Reddick, a partner with Taft Stettinius & Hollister who uses INBiz. "The Secretary of State's office has done an excellent job of keeping pace with technological changes that make doing business with Business Services timely and cost-effective for our clients. The Web site is absolutely invaluable to transaction attorneys like me."

The IACA Merit Award was presented last week at the IACA Annual Conference in Salt Lake City.
