Rokita updates Indiana CPAs during annual statehouse program

(Indianapolis)--Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita delivered keynote remarks to members of the Indiana CPA Society on January 23 at the downtown Indianapolis Hilton as part of the Society's “Day at the Statehouse” program.

Rokita updated the group on current legislative initiatives and progress being made within the office, particularly the business services division.

"It is an exciting time to be a leader in Indiana," Rokita said. "Since we offered the online filing to the general public on May 22, 2007, our office has received 46.11% of the Articles to form Domestic Corporations and Domestic Limited Liability Companies online. We have had over 10,000 total transactions processed online through our INbiz portal. This process has saved over $3500.00 in postage alone as all notification is done electronically."

Because of the use of the internet, the Secretary of State's office has been able to decrease staff while at the same time reducing document processing time.

"Since July 1, we have been able to process documents we've received in the office, whether in person or by mail, the same day rather than our previous 3-5 business day turnaround," Rokita said. "As CPAs, you can assist your clients by filing online within a matter of minutes. Creating the new online services means removing the red tape since online service means same day service. We can now incorporate and perform business filings online for less money."
