2007 Municipal Election Update
Indianapolis, IN (November 6) -- Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita and deputies from his office are fanned out across the state monitoring Indiana counties’ election processes. Secretary Rokita is currently in Tippecanoe County to review Indiana's Vote Center Pilot Project and his office is also assisting Hoosiers calling the Hoosier Voter Helpline.
Wayne and Tippecanoe Counties are piloting the Vote Center concept in this general election-- an election model that allows voters to vote at the centralized polling place of their choice rather than being bound by the traditional precinct-based process. By late afternoon, both counties are showing a relatively smooth process.
The Hoosier Voter Helpline, 1-866-IN-1-VOTE, is staffed by employees of the Secretary of State's office and will remain open until polls close. Also available is www.IndianaVoters.com for Hoosiers to check polling place locations. As of 2:30 p.m. today, the site had received more than 8900 hits. Additionally, the voter helpline had received over 350 calls.
"Indiana's poll workers deserve praise for a job well done," said Rokita. "Nearly all of the counties in Indiana holding elections today have experienced smooth elections, and that only happens when poll workers are committed to running fair, accurate elections. "
