Indianapolis, IN - Winfield, Cambridge City, and Montezuma are three Indiana towns that will hold an election on Tuesday November 8, 2005. In Winfield and Cambridge City, voters will cast ballots concerning a public question. Voters in Montezuma will fill several town council seats. They will all be the first in Indiana to vote since the passage of Public Law 109-2005 that requires all voters to provide photo ID at the polls.

Effective July 1, 2005, the new law requires voters to provide photo ID that meets the following requirements:

1. Displays the voter's photo
2. Displays the voter's name, and the name conforms with the name on the voter registration record
3. Contains an expiration date and is current or did not expire before 11/2/04 - the date of the last General Election
4. Was issued by the State of Indiana or the U.S. Government

In most cases, and Indiana driver's license, Indiana photo ID card, U.S. Passport, or Military ID will be sufficient.

Those who do not have a valid photo ID may obtain one free of charge from any BMV license branch. The law also provides specific exceptions for voters with religious objections to being photographed, indigent voters, and residents at state institutions that also serve as polling places.

Voters who are unable to provide photo ID at the polls will be able to cast provisional ballots.

The nearly 2,300 residents of Winfield make up two of four affected precincts in the 2005 elections. Voters will be using the MicroVote Infinity, a fully accessible voting machine used previously by Lake County residents. The Bi-Partisan, Lake County Election Board will be administering the election for the town of Winfield.

The nearly 2,100 residents of Cambridge City make up one of four affected precincts in the 2005 elections.

The nearly 1,200 residents of Montezuma make up one of four affected precincts in the 2005 elections.
