Carol Mihalik serves as Securities Commissioner and was appointed to that position by the Indiana Secretary of State, Connie Lawson. As Commissioner, she’s responsible for upholding Indiana’s securities laws, regulating industry professionals and protecting investors.
Prior to being appointed in November of 2013, she served as the Associate General Counsel for the office which included work as Senior Counsel for the Securities Division and as Director of the office’s Auto Dealer Service Division. In her role on behalf of the Securities Division she has coordinated large case resolutions, managed complex litigation efforts and has served as a deputy prosecutor. As deputy prosecutor, Mihalik assisted in obtaining a fifty four year jail sentence, the state’s longest for securities fraud.
Mihalik currently is a member of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) and has been an active participant with the litigation project working group.
Before joining the Secretary of State’s office in 2009, Mihalik served under two insurance commissioners at the Indiana Department of Insurance as a Chief Deputy for Consumer Protection and three years as a Deputy Attorney General with the Office of the Indiana Attorney General. In 2008 she received the American Justice Society’s Consumer Advocate of the Year Award.
Prior industry experience included eleven years with a large multinational insurer in claims investigation, and litigation in regional offices in both Illinois and New Jersey.
She’s presented both nationally and locally regarding Indiana vehicle dealer issues and on various insurance and securities topics for the American Bar Association, the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Foundation, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society.
Carol is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, the American Bar Association and a certified mediator. She is admitted to practice in Indiana state and federal courts as well as the United States Supreme Court. She received her J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis and a B.S. Biology from the Pennsylvania State University.
