Opportunity offers Indian student chance to experience Indiana state government
(Indianapolis) – Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is pleased to announce that Jaichittra Prasanna a native of Chennai, India, is currently completing his office’s 2010 Indiana Secretary of State Fellowship Program. The summer-long program allows students the opportunity to experience state government first-hand through the Secretary of State’s office.
“Jaichittra has shown tremendous growth both in leadership and innovation which would be beneficial to constituents everywhere,” said Secretary Rokita. “I’m thrilled to have her be a valuable part of our office this summer.”
Prasanna is a recent graduate of Valparaiso University where she completed her Masters in International Commerce and Policies. Aside from graduating with both the highest distinction and outstanding international student awards, Prasanna held a previous internship at the Indiana General Assembly with Representative Craig Fry. While a student at Valparaiso University, she was actively involved with the Valpo International Student Association.
Since first beginning the fellowship, Prasanna has been working with the Securities Division researching new legislative initiatives which have been adopted by different U.S. states in order to identify the most effective techniques that could be implemented in Indiana.
“I’m most looking forward to learning the main functions and duties carried out in each of the four main divisions under the Secretary of State’s office,” Prasanna said. “This internship experience will be crucial in working towards my future career goals.”
After learning more about the intricacies of government, Prasanna, a 2009 graduate of Valparaiso University intends to pursue her passion for public policy both here and abroad.
